Everyone seems so shocked that Mandisa was voted off
Idol, but I'm not. She has been lackluster at the
best for the last two weeks. She's not hit her lower
range and her power notes have been screechy, as well
as her song choices have been questionable at best. I
bet a lot of people have also been turned off by the
overt religious overtones of some of her comments.
And, really, choosing a GOSPEL song for her 21st
Century theme night? Let alone a relatively unknown
gospel song? dumb. dumb.
All in all, good choice, America. Better now than
later.
Bucky! was cute when he was singing along in her
shoutout, then he noticed the camera just as he was
about to bust into "...any man of mine..." - that was
funny!
Another funny moment was when Ryan said Elliott was
safe (that was a bit confusing the way he announced
it) and Taylor started to clap and caught
himself. Because it would have looked like he was
clapping for Mandisa to leave, when I'm sure he wanted
to celebrate Elliott's staying. I've read that
they're friends and have been roommates.
Bottom three were Paris (no surprise there - she and
her fans have gotten complacent and she was mediocre
in the show Tuesday), Elliott (he needs to build more
confidence in himself and he can win this whole
thing), and Mandisa.
I am confident that we'll see Mandisa put out a gospel
record soon. Any more comments about wanton
lifestyles, though, will lose her even more fans. AI
is not a pulpit.
Next week's theme: Songs from Queen. Should be interesting - I wonder who's going
try "Bohemian Rhapsody?"
