No one's putting a damper on my vacation

Bro Steve is recovering well from his surgery but now
says that he may not be able to go on the cruise in
Dec. They're making him take his vacation time for
his recovery. That makes no sense! He works for a
reputable place, they must have some sort of short
term disability or sick leave program. I'm hoping
that the use of vacation is temporary until they get
something in place. If not, I'm calling them to see
what's going on - Steve doesn't really know and if I
ask him he gets mad at me. I did tell him, though,
that he's paying for the cruise by the first week of
September whether he ends up going or not because it
has to be paid early and come December this will
probably all be sorted out or he can put in for
leave-without-pay. December will bring what it brings.
